Businesses slam employment red tapeThe amount of time businesses spend dealing with red tape has more than tripled since 1997, according to a survey by law firm Peninsula. The survey of over 3,000 firms has revealed that SMEs are now dedicating almost 10 hours a week to employment law issues and other regulations. 84% of those interviewed believed that their business would be more profitable if less red tape was introduced. The news came as the Government issued forms to companies across the UK, asking for their feedback on business regulations and inspections. Small business groups are hopeful that the investigation will result in a reduction in the number of regulators and inspectors. Steven Alambritis of the Federation of Small Business said, 'We need a general inspection regime where one person can advise a business on the full range of requirements, and if there is a problem a more specialised inspector can come in'. |
