Spending Review: Brown wields the axe

Gordon Brown announced widespread job cuts to the civil service in his Spending Review on Monday 12 July.

The review, which sets out the Government’s spending plans for the next three years, includes measures to cut 100,000 civil service jobs across the UK.

According to the Chancellor, the "efficiency measures" will help save £21.5 billion a year, which will go towards public services including education, health, defence and housing.
