UK "needs more apprenticeships"Too few British school-leavers are being advised to enter apprenticeships, according to the Engineering Employers’ Federation (EEF). They claim that only one in five school-leavers are advised to apply for an apprenticeship, and too many are given little or no information about ‘vocational education’. They also argue that there is too strong a bias towards traditional academic courses among careers advisers. "Without a step change in the quality of careers advice, young people will continue to believe that apprenticeships are for the disaffected and low achievers only and the government will fail to encourage more young people into vocational education," said an EEF spokesman. |
