Job advertisements "should include pension details"Businesses should be forced to disclose details of their pension schemes in job advertisements, according to the Trades Union Congress. The call came as the TUC published new research which revealed that less than 10% of firms provide information about pension entitlements when advertising positions. Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said that employers who do offer a pension scheme are 'missing a trick' by not advertising such a valuable benefit. He argued that the move would encourage jobseekers to rank pension provision on the same level as salary and holiday entitlements when choosing a career move. Responding to the TUC's comments, Bill Midgley of the British Chambers of Commerce agreed that companies who do provide a pension scheme should be encouraged to advertise the fact. However, Mr Midgley rejected the argument that businesses should be compelled to do so, saying that such a suggestion 'ignores the essential fact that many smaller employers simply find pension provision cost-prohibitive'. |
