Small firms to be consulted over red tape

Small businesses have been given the chance to express their views on red tape at an early stage, with the launch of the Government's new Small Firms Consultation Database.

The database was created following recommendations from the Small Business Council.

It allows the Small Business Service to contact SMEs on behalf of policy officials, in order to gauge the possible impact of proposed new regulations on small firms.

The Small Business Service can invite SMEs to:

• Take part in informal discussions in person or over the phone;
• Attend a focus group;
• Respond to targeted consultations about proposed new regulations.
