Firms offered guidance on new legislation

Employment relations group Acas is offering a handbook and free online training for employers, regarding the new rules for resolving disputes in the workplace.

The guidance aims to give employers a good foundation for best practice.

The organisation has reported a 25% increase in calls to its helpline, following the introduction of a significant number of new employment regulations on 1 October.

Further information on dispute resolution and other employment issues is available on the Acas website (www.acas.org.uk).

Meanwhile, the Inland Revenue has launched new guidance on the tax allowances that are available to businesses, in order to help them to comply with the new requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Many of the adjustments needed to meet the new requirement of taking 'reasonable steps' to remove physical barriers to access for disabled people could already qualify for tax relief, either as a revenue expense or through capital allowances.
