Business and education 'must collaborate' on trainingDavid Bell, Chief Inspector of Schools, has called on the education and business worlds to join forces to boost vocational learning. Addressing conference delegates as part of the UK's first ever Enterprise Week, Mr Bell said, 'Increasingly, many professions require young people to take vocational routes through education'. 'It is therefore essential that vocational courses are tailored to the needs of employers, are taught by teachers with relevant experience and are recognised with the high esteem they deserve', he added. However, a recent survey from the Association of Colleges has suggested that 59% of Britons believe employers do not take responsibility for training their workers. 74% said that employers should be fined for failing to supply sufficient training. The Confederation of British Industry refuted the claims, highlighting the fact that employers spend £23.5bn a year on training in order to make up for 'failings in the education system'. |
